Anselm Kiefer. CAHH. Valencia

28 April 2026 - 25 October 2026

“For me, history has always been a substance, just as clay is for the sculptor who models it in order to create his own story.” This statement by Anselm Kiefer (Donaueschingen, Germany, 1945) aptly summarizes the working method of an artist who has made history, alongside literature and philosophy, his primary source of inspiration.

This exhibition, organized in close collaboration with Kiefer, seeks to unpack his work through paintings from the collection of Hortensia Herrero, who has consistently shown a particular affinity for this artist and to whom she has dedicated the main gallery of her art center. The exhibition brings together paintings from the Hortensia Herrero Collection, where landscape and history take centre stage, alongside a selection of works coming directly from the artist’s studio, some of which are being shown publicly for the very first time.

In Kiefer’s first exhibition in Valencia, curated by Javier Molins, visitors will have the opportunity to see the work of an artist considered to be one of the most important on the international stage. His works are held in the most prestigious collections of our time, including the Louvre Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Centre Pompidou, MoMA, and Tate, among others.
